Time to educate your cnc machinists about the difference between Torx and Torx Plus Screws, Torx and Torx Plus Screw Drivers which are used in CNC Tools.
This blog post will be more interesting for those who are working in cnc machine workshops for last decade, because as with time innovation comes in every technology, the same way cnc machining has seen many changes.
If we just strict ourselves to cnc tooling, there are many noticeable changes we have seen in the past decade.
Of course you might have used tools like,
- Tool DSBNL 2525M12
- Tool SBJBR 2020K11
- Tool DSKNL 2525M12
- Tool A25T DDUNL 11
- Tool R166.4KF-25-16
The interesting thing is that now all the tools clamps or screws to grip inserts are of Torx Plus type.
If you are a decade old cnc workshop then in past you might have used tools with Torx type Screws and you might still be happy with them if you are still using them.
The Torx Plus is the newer version or profile of Torx.
A thing must note is that if you are already using Torx Screws and Torx Screwdrivers,
Standard Torx drivers can be used to drive Torx Plus screws, but not to full torque because of the loose fit. Torx Plus drivers will not fit standard Torx screws.
If you don’t take timely notice then, If cnc machinist is unaware then you might lose your precious screws in very little time. Because if cnc machinist don’t pay attention then in first two days, one Torx Plus screw might get cam-out (a process by which a screwdriver slips out of the head of a screw being driven once the torque required to turn the screw exceeds a certain amount.).
The above phenomenon happens when
The Torx Plus screws just cam-out because the cnc machine operator is not using the Torx Plus driver but was using Torx driver (actually he doesn’t know the difference between Torx and Torx Plus, because visually there is very little difference in them.).
