This tutorial explains how Haas CNC machine can be connected to a PC and a laptop.
As there are many benefits of connecting a cnc machine to a pc or laptop, cnc machinists can easily manage, send, receive, update data without using cnc machine control panel.

How to Connect Haas CNC to PC
CNC machinists can connect Haas machine to a standalone PC. This whole process is not very difficult and as such no special hardware is required to connect a CNC machine to a PC.
Hardware Requirements
No special hardware is needed.
You will need an RS-232 cable with a 9-pin connector on one end and a 25-pin connector on the other. The cable will be configured as a null modem cable.
Software Requirements
You will need some form of communication software.
A communications program called a DNC like Predator DNC.
If you have a CAM system (Mastercam, Surfcam, GibbsCAM, etc.), you probably already have the program you need to communicate.
Machine Settings
The only other thing you have to be aware of is that the communications settings in the Haas control and the PC must correspond. Settings 11, 12, 13, 14 and 37 in the Haas are important; they must match the PC software.
How to Connect Haas CNC to Laptop
Laptops are connected with the Haas cnc machine the same way as PC are connected,
but as laptops come without Serial-port so a cnc machinist need a way to connect the null modem to laptop.
Hardware Requirements
As laptops come without serial-ports so you need an extra cable USB to Serial-Port Cable (USB-to-Serial adapter) ,
USB-to-Serial-Port Adapter Configuration
CNC machinists will need a USB-to-serial-port Adapter. Be sure the software drivers supplied with the adapter support your computer’s operating system. This will add a serial communications port to your laptop.
Once this is installed , you can connect a null modem cable (RS-232 cable with a 9-pin connector on one end and a 25-pin connector on the other) between your Haas machine and the USB-to-serial-port adapter.
Now you will also need to know which COM port has been assigned to USB-to-Serial port adapter.
To determine which COM port has been assigned in a Windows Operating System, make sure the computer is connected to the machine and the software drivers are loaded.
Right-click on the MY COMPUTER icon and click properties. Select the HARDWARE tab and click the DEVICE MANAGER button. Now, click on the word PORTS and this should show you the COM port number assigned to your USB-to- Serial converter cable. Data sent to your machine must go through this port. Set that port number in your computer’s sending software program.
